For Immediate Release Jan. 2019 – The Symphonic Chorale of Southwest Florida is proud to host Sing Out! Latin America, its sixth annual Choral Festival on Jan 18-19. Award-winning composer and conductor, Julio Morales will lead the Festival Chorus through workshops featuring the rhythms of Latin America and Mexico, as well as a performance by his 7-member a cappella performance group, Vox Populi Project. The Festival workshops begin on Friday evening, Jan. 18th and continue through Saturday, Jan. 19 from 10 am – 4 pm. The Festival concludes with a FREE admission Sing Out! Festival Concert Sat. evening at 7:30 pm. The Festival and concert take place at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Fort Myers.

“We are thrilled that Julio Morales and Vox Populi Project will join us for our Sing Out! Latin America Festival this year,” says Trent Brown, Symphonic Chorale Artistic Director. “Sing Out! participants return year after year and share that it’s always such a special experience for them as choral singers. This year will not disappoint and we’re excited to be premiering a new composition that Julio wrote for our Festival.”

Guest Clinician Julio Morales and Vox Populi Project are based in Veracruz, Mexico but both Mr. Morales and the group have garnered much praise and recognition at international music festivals throughout Mexico, Latin America and South America. The group specializes in performing unique a cappella arrangements exploring different sounds and textures of Mexico’s popular and folk music. Vox Populi will perform for the the first half of the Festival Concert on Saturday evening followed by the Festival Choir.

As a composer, Mr. Morales, has served as the composer-in-residence for the “Contare” project, designed to bring Mexican and American cultures together through music, sponsored by VocalEssence, a chorus based in Minneapolis, MN.   He is currently serving as composer-in-residence with Chicago a Cappella, based in Chicago, IL and he conducts several choirs at the A.C. Mateo Oliva Oliva, in Naolinco, Veracruz.

The Symphonic Chorale of Southwest Florida is celebrating its 8th season as an independent professional core chorus.  It is under the artistic leadership of Dr. Trent Brown and also serves as the Resident Chorus of the Southwest Florida Symphony. It is committed to being a significant “voice” in the arts community, providing professional level musical experiences accessible to all music lovers in southwest Florida.  As a 501(c)3 non-profit arts organization it seeks community support to continue to offer its self-produced concerts without required admission charge.
